Jambay Lhakhang Drup & Prakar Festival

Jambay Lhakhang Drup is one of most awaited religious festivals on the calendar in the valley of Bumthang. It is famous for Terchham or the Naked Dance which is showcased to believers at mid-night under the cold starry autumn night. Witnessing the Terchham is believed to cleanse on off all evils and bless with good fortune. The five days festival comprises centuries old masked dances and folk culture of the valley.

Prakar is a small community in Chhumey valley under Bumthang. This closely-knit community gathers for the Prakar Tshechu or Duchoe which is held every year for three days. Masked dances at the festival are performed by the monks of Nimalung Monastery located few miles ahead on a serene ridge. This particular festival is known for portraying some of the most articulate and spectacular masked dances in the entire country. Prakar Tshechu is a festival not to be missed
